My question was very obviously not about the contents of the blog, but your thought process in how you chose to write it from the stance you did.

I’m curious—why did you use Alice Walker to frame talking about Icke’s beliefs? Why not just talk about his beliefs with his name in the title —maybe listing a few famous people who cosign his stances--instead of doing it this way?

He sounds like a nut but you put being anti-Zionist and anti-Semitic in the same breath here several times as if they are both abhorrent. Being anti-Semitic IS abhorrent, being anti-Zionist is not. I get real tired of the two being conflated as if criticizing Israel necessarily means one is a bigot. It’s bullying and

Hold on, let’s not pretend that learning how to be as stupid and confused as fuck on the internet is somehow more common in Olds. I am an Old. One of my also-Old boyfriend’s pastimes is watching YouTube and gleefully making me listen to the sheer amount of crazy, uninformed, uneducated beliefs that you can find out

Oh my God. A BELCHER KID FRIEND CAME BACK. THEY WERE IN MORE THAN ONE EPISODE!

Millie is a stalker. Courtey’s just a kid (annoying, true) who likes Gene more than Gene likes her.

I don’t see any similarity between Millie and Courtney. One is an insipid tweener and the other is a 9-year-old psychopath. Seriously, I’m baffled by this statement.

Why doesn’t it work this way?

We taught out kids how to make toast and PJ. If they didn’t like what we were having the toaster and PJ is on the counter and then there was more delicious food for us!

I often try to pinpoint the moment when “everyone is entitled to their opinions” somehow erroneously morphed into “everyone’s opinion is entitled to respect.” Because NO.

We need to stop this “I’m entitled to my opinion” non-sense. All opinions are not of value nor should they be respected. I know absolutely nothing about nuclear physics. My opinion on the topic of nuclear physics makes about as much sense as a soup sandwich.

Credit to Van for responding, in the moment and in the face a huge celebrity and icon and not backing down and still delivering some really real shit to Kanye’s face.

Though it /is/ kind of interesting that the reviewer reads all these non-white families as working class despite the significant textual evidence to the contrary...

Seriously though, it seems even more telling that Dunham characterized his lines as a “massive insult of white women” rather than a fairly tame insult towards her character/show (and clueless hipsters like her) specifically.

“Every massive insult of white women was one hundred per cent him. I e-mailed him later to say ‘I hope you feel the part on “Girls” didn’t tokenize you,’ and his response was really Donald-y and enigmatic: ‘Let’s not think back on mistakes we made in the past, let’s just focus on what lies in front of us.’ ”

In the original article, Kenya Barris is mentioned first, and then that quote comes later. This greatest-hits version for reverses that, so it gave me the same impression. I’m really starting to sour on this “just the good parts” style of content-theft, especially since it’s usually not written very carefully.

and his response was really Donald-y and enigmatic: ‘Let’s not think back on mistakes we made in the past, let’s just focus on what lies in front of us.’ ”

I’m responding to you because I don’t want to talk to whyareyousoracist. As a response to his ridiculous line of thought, though:

People’s resilience and ability to not be physically harmed by words is not a reason to perpetuate demeaning and hateful expressions, even if they’ve lost some of that ugliness over time. I get what you’re saying here (they’re only words, right?), but this concept of “people just shouldn’t take it the wrong way” is

I don’t know about you, but as a woman and a Democrat, I care a lot more about HRC shielding harassers from true punishment and shuffling them around her sphere of influence while selling herself as “advocate for women” (per her Twitter bio) than I do about a scumbag male comedian. I’m not dismissing what Louis did,
