Yea it's easy when you're cars are in decent shape and you're not finishing up a lease or something. It sucks for people who have no choice but to pay the markup right now, what sucks even more for those same people is when supply comes back and depreciation makes them underwater on their car. 

And just like the i3 the only time these make financial sense is when they're heavily depreciated on the used market. If I could get one for 18k in a couple of years it would make for a neat commuter. But for 40k? Nah.
