ok so to pick up on it you need to know that:
a) In the comics, the Celestials were the unseen aliens in 2001: a Space Odyssey
b) Pink Floyd were slated to score 2001, before Kubrick decided he liked his placeholder soundtrack better

I liked the Eternals, in general. The problems with it are pretty simple to explain, though:
Eternals was like if you went on a hike with someone you really like and when you got to your lunch spot, you zoned out appreciating the view while they were telling you a story that’s really important to them, but they keep losing their place and leaving details out.
Right before this, Amy Adams spent 10 episodes of an HBO series getting drunk and taking pills.
For me, the problem with Eternals wasn’t that it was different or ambitious - that was fine. The problem is it introduces an enormous cast of characters for us to get to know, then dumps a ton of exposition on us about those characters, then we learn that everything the characters know (that we just learned) is wrong,…
Reading this, it almost feels that films are subjective and there is little point about being condescending towards audiences who didn’t like the same thing.
Bugs Bunny tried to warn us.
Eternals felt like a Phase 2 movie to me. I didn’t hate it, but it felt long. Just so very long. And despite using characters the general public knew nothing about, and making the bold choice of having Zhao direct, the whole movie felt like it was playing it too safe. (And man, the standard MCU quips just did not fit…
I find it hard to believe feelings were so strong about “The Eternals.” It wasn’t amazing by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a much-needed stretch of Marvel’s imagination. It was weirder, existed on its own terms, and, ultimately, the final product was good.
i presume the “audiences like women to be nice in their movies” came from netflix execs and test screenings.
“I’m not going to delude myself,” Wright says. “It could just be that it was a film that didn’t work and that’s okay, too. We have a right as artists to fail. We have to keep pushing ourselves. You’ve got to come in with a fairly decent batting average, but if you don’t make the occasional film that doesn’t work,…
I definitely think they have a long way to go, but Eternals features a prominent gay character whose entire motivation after losing faith in humanity at large is loving his husband and son and wanting to save the world for them. Its kiss might be easy to edit out, but we focus as much on the domestic life of a…
The part in the tweet that says “We stongly denounce any and ALL legislation that infringes on the basic human rights of the LGBTQIA+ community”?
yeah, I don’t think anyone’s debating that.
Florida still sucks though...
For me, the real star of the show is the building. It’s the previous home of Bell Labs in Holmdel NJ. I loved working in that building and it’s both heartwarming and sad to see it again. It had three restaurants, a bank, movie rental, dry cleaners, and the most wonderful library of technical documents.
G/O Media’s Severance offers a thrilling reminder of why we never want to relocate our office
Watching series like Ozark and The Handmaid’s Tale where there is a hammer of impending doom hanging over every minute of the program, Ted Lasso was a bright ray of sunshine, peppered with plenty of personal dark moments and character depth that I was unprepared for. Season 1 is superior to season 2 of Ted Lasso, but…
