I have no doubt that Clinton is transphobic and adopts TERF rhetoric

her support for various issues is less driven by her inherent beliefs than reflecting back what has become the political norm.”

The title should probably be “cautious politician gives cautious answer to extremely loaded, leading questions about trans politics.”

hillary is a middle aged woman from a different era and her response was both appropriate and made in the spirit of understanding.

I’m taking a chance here by pulling you out of the greys, but I wanted to make a few points in response. The first is that I agree that people who aren’t lesbian shouldn’t be having this sort of discussion without us, and that there is definitely a specific strain of homophobia and misogyny that’s more toxic than the

“So, yeah, willingly going with the unknown on a path that you know is the right thing but you also know will be incredibly painful for them socially and in their lives go forward, yes, that’s gutsy.”

THIS.

I’m not sure what the writer is trying to get at here. Clinton simply acknowledges that people struggle with understanding the lives of trans people. You couldn’t possibly extrapolate from that that trans people themselves are an after thought. I swear, it’s nonsense like this post that helped put the orange man in

I really, really, really don’t like Clinton. That said...

So there’s the casual transphobia of creating a dichotomy between “women” and “trans women” that implies that “trans” is a caveat on the word women. Beyond that, the issue is not when someone says “my experiences are different from yours.” It’s when people start using their experiences or their upbringing or whatever

Hillary responding that she is “still learning” is vulnerability 101. This was the right response.

I am decidedly not a Hillary fan, but this is a very uncharitable take on what she has said here.

Also, while there’s support for parents of trans kids now, there really wasn’t until recently. It is significantly more gutsy to support your child when there’s no external support for either of you, no roadmap or published guidelines, no one to talk to about it, etc.

Also, on the “gutsy” front, I am going to assume this writer is not a parent. I don’t have the details from the anecdote in question, but if one of Hillary’s friends is talking about her young child, I’m going to take “a few years ago” to mean in the 1990s when HC herself had a young child. At that time (or even

She's older and this issue is not something she is fully aware of. She said she's still learning and that's great. It shows she's actively learning and curious about current topics as a private citizen. The interviewer comes off bad here is what I read primarily. While we could split hairs about her not giving the

My mom is around Hillary’s age, and she has lots of questions around stuff like gender identity and pronouns. She has a really hard time with “they/them/theirs” pronouns, for example, but if I yell at her and shout her down, she would just get defensive and she’d never learn. So I try to talk to her using specific

So, she reveals that she supports trans people and that she’s learning and trying to better herself on a topic and human condition that she wasn’t familiar with for most of her life. And the takeaway here is that that’s “not pretty”? The purity tests are unreal.

Bingo.  Its an odd tendency for many to try to box out allies on these issues and more.

I don’t see what the issue is here. This is a new subject for many people, something they’ve never been exposed to before or thought much about. And frankly, it is an uncomfortable topic for many, especially older folks. I say it’s a good thing for those who are confused or don’t feel fully confident in their ideas

There is no excuse for not vetting their hires. Particularly given the doofus in the White House and the importance of drawing contrasts.

The Sanders campaign hired a guy who made his own viral campaign video to be their new video person. And then twitter vetted him before Sanders’ campaign did...
