Absolutely. I would strongly disagree with anyone claiming they were suffering from a heckler’s veto online. Trolling/harassment/threats that limit their ability to participate, sure. But not a true heckler’s veto. That’s pretty limited to meatspace.

True. But the heckler’s veto is one of the more difficult issues of free speech law to navigate, because you reach a point where different groups’ rights to free speech conflict.

Those examples highlight the issue pretty well. Something that started as “we have empathy for people with PTSD and are going to do this totally innocuous and inconsequential thing that might help them” becomes “shitty people try to abuse that empathy to get out of work.”

The heckler’s veto is a real problem. But at the same time, saying that protest is incompatible with free speech is not getting the point across very well.

A lot of the quoted section is not from the NFL (or from the linked article, so?). And does nothing to explain the reduction. It explains what they found, not how it was applied to their policy. The expressed policy is any domestic violence = 6 games. Not “only 6 games if we can corroborate 20 other incidents.” Or…
