Curb rash on my STI and bent rims on my 3000GT VR-4 disabused me of any notion that skinny tires on my daily driver is a good idea in the long run. Even the 235/50R18's on my XC70 have gotten bent on occasion navigating the relative moonscape that is Philly streets. Hopefully the 235/60R18's on the XC60 will be more

Oh good, it’s not just me. The salesman/dealer I ordered my XC60 from seemed surprised that I wouldn’t want 20's instead of the stock 18's. I was like, dude, I have to drive into Philly on the reg. I need that damn sidewall. It’s not a freaking sports car, it’ll never be a sports car, so why pretend? Plus it keeps the

While I can’t speak to the shipbuilding industry, in the nuclear industry at least, Charpy notch tests are generally expected to be specified/performed at the lowest service temperature, often -40°F/C for equipment used outside in the US, unless the ASME code specifically requires lower temperature testing for that

Ferrari dealer was trying to tell me Corvettes are plastic toys that can only go in a straight line

After spending a year looking at houses, there are some builders who are just permanently on my “don’t even bother” list.

I like leather, but just as with leather, there’s a wide gamut of synthetics that can either be very good or very bad. Think computer chairs for a moment as an example. A $50 Staples discount-special office chair is going to have shit synthetic leather, and will feel terrible and breathe terribly for the entirety of

If you look at the Monroney stickers for refreshed MY’22 Volvos, leather is now a $1400 option instead of being included in the price like it was on MY’21 and previous. I’m a little annoyed, because it’s not like they discounted the base price of the car to compensate. I also notice that most of the 2022 Volvo’s on

ALSO the deck is to high and the ramps too short for anything specifically sporty...

Speaking as someone currently working in the Nuclear power industry, this is 100% accurate. There’s been so much lost institutional knowledge over the last 30-40 years, it’s no wonder that the few power-plants that have been built recently have had technical issues and gone way over budget.

Well, yes and no. I’d argue that a brand that was consistently highly rated by a site like that probably is unlikely to put out a bad unit on a whim. Seasonic, for example, are one of those companies where I would pretty much trust any of their products to at least not be a PC-killer.

Unfortunately, many of the review sites that used to focus on and dig deep into PSUs are gone now. JohnnyGuru was my go-to, and they haven’t posted any new reviews since 2019, and it looks like their site finally went offline earlier this year.

Ah, my understanding was that the LX was being put out to pasture at the same time as the LC. Reports are that they’re replacing it with something called the LQ , which based on pictures will probably share more DNA with the RX than the LX/LC. Not sure if that’s still the plan.

I’m not sure why Toyota doesn’t offer the Land Cruiser in a more pedestrian package in the US, basically a up-sized 4Runner/LC Prado. They could keep the LX ‘trim’ for the highfalutin clients, and offer the LC separately as a serious overland vehicle instead of the current LC & LX being almost identical, minus a few

Define ‘comparable’. Whether 1/4 mile, 0-60, or track times, the current C8 Corvette either equals or beats the GT-R for significantly less money (40%- 67%, depending on Premium vs NISMO).

I see your IATF 16949, and raise you NQA-1:

What are your thoughts on Yuasa?

Unfortunately, I can’t assume anymore. Too many stupid people out there.

I guess it depends on what you mean by ‘work’. Will they produce electricity? Yes.

I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt, but just in case, are you counting on solar panels to produce energy at night to charge electric cars? Because that’s not how they work, and I doubt that’ll change even in 15 years.
