Yeah the stairs climbed is the only thing that's frustrating. I've noticed it's much much better when you're actually climbing stairs vs exercising on a stair climber. I think the stationary nature of a stair climber gives it problems.

The Fitbit instructions actually advise you to keep it moderately loose, not clamped down to the point that it can't move. Also they want you to wear it above the wrist bone, which I think a bunch of people miss.

FWIW I have a 14 Grand Cherokee and the shifter will stick in reverse when you shift from drive to park and you have to shift again to get it to go into park. Not all the time, but occasionally as if it's not fully engaged. Doesn’t sound like the same thing, but it’s certainly annoying.
