Folks don’t get it twisted. There was an original complaint that named only the parents. The article says the complaint was amended to add the child and mentions the child writing on the walls of the place. That means they had to be defending the case by claiming they were not themselves legally liable for the actions

Whoa, whoa, whoa... Say what?

I don’t often say this about a politician, but the more I learn about her, the more I like Ocasio-Cortez. Seriously.

Good Girls really surprised me in that I’ve enjoyed both seasons and have become very invested in each of the women and their families.

Widows is mentioned above, it’s also the exact plot of that.

Sorry, isn’t this the exact plot of the TV show Good Girls? But replace mobsters with robbers?

This isn’t a Chicago high school. Oak Park is a predominantly white Chicago suburb that fashions itself as progressive because it made some efforts to equalize housing a few decades ago. But, of course, that was only after the white townspeople fire-bombed famed black chemist Percy Julian’s house (see: Drunk History

I’m not one for putting the onus for everything on teachers y’all, I do love and respect ‘em! But why are we pretending the one adult in the room who is in charge of the kids doesn’t know about, can’t see and is powerless to stop bullying?! Yeah, yeah parents should be raising their kids better but how about Teacher’s

Ship as in relationship. Relationship of two people. Stan is being an obsessive fan usually of one person.

I don’t stan but I ship lol.

Ship.

This feels like an important point. We’re not even talking about parent teacher conferences here, one woman got turned away because she wasn’t dressed formally enough to do paperwork!

One woman got turned away for enrolling her kid in the school! It’s not even about respect, in that context it’s about someone going to a government office to fill out paperwork!

My son went to school last week and completely forgot his diabetic kit. And he used the last of his insulin the nurse keeps at school for emergencies. So I had to run there directly from cardiac rehab, still in my workout clothes.

It’s the same issue as with regular dress codes. We care so much about how the children are dressing that we’re willing to take a day of their education from them for it. We care about their education but only when they conform to the things we want.

As someone who is teaching/has mostly taught in “diverse” (code for mostly minority) schools, I can say with 100% certainty that most of our teachers could not give less of a fuck how a parent comes dressed, as long as they come when needed.

What good would policing *more* clothing choices do? Fuck a dress code for parents, that’s the entire point of this article.

Or God forbid you are sick or something and throwing a coat over PJs. I don't even have kids, but I've come straight from the gym to get my friend's kid from after care when she's been stuck on a broken down train. Would the school prefer to wait for me to shower and change? The fact that fines are something like $20

This really pisses me off. It’s bad enough so many schools are going to uniforms, which limit expression and force staff into the role of prison wardens (no hoodies, shirt tucked in, where’s your belt, skirt’s too short). Not to mention uniforms do nothing to hide income disparity because cleanliness, shoes,
