110% agree that he did not deserve to die. 110% agree that he is not an irredeemable human who never did anything positive. However, let’s not let our caping for him turn him into an angel. When you call him a “wonderful person despite the mistakes he’s made,” “a beautiful person” and more without ever naming his

Single mom raising a child on 42K plus 500 a month in child support? That’s not easy but it’s definitely not impossible. The people who actually qualify for the support she fraudulently received do so on far less money than that.

Confused as to how you are so certain that he has no stable adults supporting him? And how “explaining the world to him” is going fix trauma, grief and mental illness?

Yes, very true. It has to be pretty serious to get a child assumed to be able to care for/protect themselves because of their age (obvi problematic).

Unfortunately, what I said still applies to the poor/black/sometimes disabled children I have had to make calls regarding. Made a call just a couple of days ago regarding a 12yo girl who is regularly (3-5x week) punched in the face by her father for being gay. They declined to investigate. I certainly don’t want CPS

? Do you work with child protective services? Because I do. The sad reality is, even when I have reported physical violence they will frequently decline to investigate.

Not even close. Even some physical abuse does not warrant CPS taking the case. Neither does educational neglect or medical neglect (unless the medical neglect could result in the child’s death). It’s pretty hard to get CPS to take a case.

You asked for free advice. I notice that you got plenty of duplicate suggestions, but this is the only shady reply I see. I am under no obligation to read every comment before answering your question with a well-meaning reply, just as you are under no obligation to respond. Be blessed.

Highly recommend pulling your hair back into a bun and throwing on a really wide headband (either athletic or cute printed)

6.0 GPA scale is also very common.

My hair is similar to yours. I’m not going to claim it’s perfectly silky smooth now, but it improved a lot with: wrapping it in a satin scarf at night, shampooing less frequently, Redken shampoo/conditioner, hot oil treatments before washing and left in overnight if possible, and a good leave-in oil.

She was definitely not driving tho... You can hear the car door opening and closing while she’s talking.

Ugh so sorry it’s been tough. Calling DCFS is one of my least favorite parts of my job. I’ve had kids be furious with me. I just try to give them space, remain supportive, and articulate to them that there are some things going on at home that need to change and my goal is not to get them removed from home but to make

Yup, that’s real. However, they will never find out who called unless it is totally obvious. If there is any possibility that someone else (at school, a neighbor, etc.) could have called, I would just feign ignorance if I were you. As a social worker, I typically inform parents that I am making a report but there are

Uhhh I would definitely not say that Chicago residents are “reaping the reward of a blue state status.” There is a mass exodus of Black Chicagoans precisely because of the lack of jobs, cuts to benefits, closing of mental health facilities, etc. Our public schools are a hot mess, taxes are high, we continue to have a

I’m a social worker at a school so I make lots of CPS calls, unfortunately. It’s got to be pretty bad for them to remove kids of that age (the assumption is that they can basically fend for themselves unless there is sexual or serious physical abuse, basically). I would be very surprised if they actually removed the
