When a colleague of mine was pregnant with a boy . . . One even congratulated her on “doing her job,”

You’re on a website dedicated to finding new little facets of self-improvement and productivity, sometimes involving coming up with terminology for the things that hold us back. If this particular entry didn’t help you, it doesn’t mean it’s merely ‘catchy’ or a ‘meme’.

Not all libraries are like this! My local Fayetteville (Arkansas) Public Library has been happy to accept copies of both my (scifi/horror) novels and included me in a local authors program. The advice to self-published authors should be to ask, not give up.

Look around on Facebook for your local Indivisible group (e.g. I’m in Arkansas and mine is Ozark Indivisible). They post calls-to-action, marches, protests, news, and the occasional political meme.

Right? I still get paranoid bringing my magnetic-plate-wearing phone (or anything magnetic) close to anything electronic, but so far haven’t found a situation where it messed anything up.

I once wrote a long, long series of comedy articles (now lost to internet history) about how much I hated Heir to the Empire. How does an indie author submit a scifi work to be included on lists like these?

Now I’m curious to know if my novel (link) qualifies. I’ve had readers/reviewers call the main character a wonderful heroine, and I’ve had others call her a sarcastic bitch. n_n

This is definitely something I went for in my own novel (link). (If anybody’s interested, wait until Saturday, when I’ll be running a giveaway.) A lot of us like to fantasize about ‘what we’d do in that situation’, but sometimes it’s not enough.

Biting the bullet and self-publishing a sci-fi novel has boosted my confidence so much. I’m very lucky that so many paved the way before me; there are pretty clear ‘do X early, do Y after a while, do Z for five minutes every day’ steps (although they change a little from year to year).

‘Joyful geekiness’, ‘make you actually think’... Argh, I can’t help myself — you just described my book (link)!

This made my night. Thanks so much, and I can’t wait to see your review! I just finished outlining the semi-sequel (same setting, different characters) and hope to deliver a lot more of what everyone loved about Eden Green.
