No way, no how.
No way, no how.
Rob, you magnificent bastard.
I slammed CP... then went and looked at some for sale... that’s actually a great price for these things... but the work you would need to do to bring it back to good condition AND fun to drive (needs an LS swap for sure) would totally negate the money you saved... so still CP.
CP in 1985, 1955, 2015 and 1885 dollars.
There are cars out there that elicit a “oh that’s cool” response from nearly anyone — even non-car people. I’d reckon 95% of the population has seen Back To The Future, and has at least some connection to the DeLorean. If you’re purchasing a DeLorean, that’s why you’re doing it, and I’m 100% okay with that notion.…
Many places have now gone to pay and display parking, with no defined spaces at all. This makes short cars a huge advantage - when I had my 500 Abarth it was amazing home much easier it was to find parking in my city’s downtown area - it fit in all sorts of places that other cars couldn’t. A Smart would be even better…
Somewhere I have a picture I snapped in Paris, France back in the 1980s. It was on a side street somewhere in the area of the Eiffel Tower if I recall. There was a little 2CV with all four wheels off the ground sandwiched between two big Citroen coupes that had wedged their bumpers under the 2CV’s bumpers. That 2CV…
Fundamentally, it was just a really awkward compromise, that was an attempt to solve a real problem, but not in the way it needed to be solved.
I can't wait to introduce you to the UTV world.
2019 also took from us a Jalopnik that was better than clickbait headlines. 5 paragraphs and 2 ads before you get to the point, and this certainly would never have saved the Smart car anyway.
They should have touted it as a bite-size Porsche 911.
The last point. I have a scooter and a car, the scooter is 12 years newer than my car but obviously is much smaller. Registration for the scoot is more than my car.
I kind of liked the shitty transmission in the first gen Smart. It was so bad that you had to try really hard to work around it. I found that fun. Putting it in manual mode, hitting the shift + button and then timing a throttle lift for about 1.2 sec later when the trans responded and then timing getting back on the…
DC resident and Car2Go member starting back in 2012 here and my take is a little different: Similar to their ability to park, Smartcars filled a hole I’m not certain is actually there.
Diagonal on street parking was a great idea that virtually disappeared in most communities as the need for more travel lanes increased. Some communities are returning to diagonal parking spaces that require that the vehicle be backed, which eases departure issues of backing out into moving traffic. Easy parking, no…
I met a guy driving a Smart once. He was not a small person. About 6'4 and a wide body. He and his oversized son fit in it and didn’t complain about the room. The issue was the transmission. Made a Fiesta DCT seem smooth. That combined with not super great gas mileage and a thirst for high test made it a toy not a…
The two new releases aside (the naked and adv bikes), this has consistently been my beef with HD. 30% more expensive for 70% of the power and 120% of the weight of something from Kawi, Honda, etc., let alone the brands that stack up in price. I bought a ZRX1100 last year and am flabbergasted that a 20 year newer…
