Keeping a nation unified is important. Compulsory demonstrations of nationalism may not be the best way and are certainly not the only way.

I don't think the Pledge of Allegiance or the National Anthem are endangering anybody, but I do find collective displays of ritualized nationalism creepy when it's completely out of context, like the start of school or a baseball game.

I haven't seen Season 2, but just wanted to echo your admiration for Amy Ryan. Why she isn't a bigger star is beyond me, because she is absurdly talented and capable of playing such a wide range of characters.
