Very busy week. Only time for one movie night, another Sherlock Holmes: Terror by Night. This one took place on a train. Trains were so swanky back then! This is a problem of growth-based economies: in order to simulate growth, all the little niceties get stripped away, little by little, year after year. And now…
In all fairness, Coppolla has mostly stinkers (granted his films grossed more than Carpenter, Scorsese has King of Comedy & Shutter Island, Lucas has the prequels & any other film not named American Graffiti, Ashby, Peckinpah & Altman have more misses than hits. Quinten has death proof - his half sucked & 4 rooms,…
As long as the Anthrax song is off State of Euphoria, and not “I’m the man” or “bring the noise”.
I have not seen this but your description makes it sounds like the first chance said everything that needed to be said, i.e. this fucking rules.
Respect to them for giving John Carpenter a lifetime achievement award.
I feel like there are only two acceptable endings, at this point.
And in the last scene, Cersei and The Mountain perform "Puttin' On The Ritz"!
Bold...yet oddly familiar!
The fact that Ben Shapiro considers Andrew Neil, the right-wing chairman of pro-Brexit rag “The Spectator” a “leftist” shows how far-right American conservatism has gone.
You may have a point, but I’ve designed an ultra lightweight armor using the plot of the show itself.
It seemed, early on, like this show would be the definitive version of the Game of Thrones story. Everyone freaked out about that Adult Swim joke that aired right before Rick & Morty a couple seasons ago, but you know what? RIP The writing on Game of Thrones.
With only the space of “Fellowship of the Ring” to tie…
LS: So he sent me this script and I read this character description that says, “this is Mrs. DuMars, the angriest, ugliest woman God ever let loose on the planet.” And I thought, I have to do this role.
You’re imagining that the showrunners are still telling a story with layers and depth? Nah. At this point, it’s all out on the surface. If Euron’s smart enough to set a trap and Dany’s fleet is stupid enough to bumble into it, well, we’re just supposed to take that at face value.
Historically, it’s the men with noble causes one needs to fear most. Your average self-interested swine will leave you alone as long as his needs are sated. Only an idealist will keep coming after you long past that point.
The first three are “Chief Tarly, P.I.,” “Love-Matic Greyjoy” and the “Lannister Family Smile-Time Variety Hour”.
Good take.
I have watched Avengers:Infinity Wars on Netflix several times now. It’s a good flick. But I just cannot watch Peter Dinklage play an enormous dwarf along - with the excruciatingly bad Brit accent.
I woke up in the middle of the night and stumbled upon the first episode of SMILF playing on Sky Atlantic (I live in London). Ended up pressing the green button to “watch the next episode” again and again, so I’ve just finished binge-watching all of Season 1.
