That is a possibility. The Continental from the film had a dark-colored landau/vinyl top and Euro plates, whereas the one in the photo above seems to have a lighter colored top.

The only French Connection movie poster I remember going around was this one;

That one is a beautiful example of that gen. A shame I can't find anything in that good of shape in NYC.

The Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis/Town Car, Cherokee XJ, Ranger, LS400, and Land Cruiser are my favorites of this bunch. Great list; now all I have to do is find some decent examples of these around here and hope they'll be within the price range.

This should hold me over nicely until the next Star Fox game eventually comes out. :D

I'm sorry to hear that; I suppose that there are always isolated cases like that. Sort of like that guy further up whose Corolla was terrible in regards to failed components.

Thanks for the tip; I'll keep that in mind if I get out to look at any. :)

That's good to hear, and I'm glad that you had a positive experience with one. Here's hoping I can find one that isn't too badly rusted around here!

These are some of the nicest 90s Japanese luxury cars out there IMO. Paint it black and you've got a deal.

I can second that sentiment; I'm looking into these as well as the Gran Cherokee to do battle with NYC's winters.

It's a shame that if you take your eyes off of it for a second it will be stolen.

Here's an '02 Grand Cherokee Overland. The bid is currently at $4,451. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've always heard that this gen was pretty solid in terms of reliability.

+1; you'll be hard pressed to kill a Panther Platform car.

I was waiting for someone to post this. +1

I'm particularly interested in this question; I'm in the market for a relatively dependable car in the sub-$5000 range at the moment. :D

The Bearcat is still around, albeit in a different incarnation.

Now if only the 1970s custom van scene would come back.

There's still a good few around my area, both for sale and driving around. I'm not completely sure of the extent of that rust recall though. I might consider an early 2000s 4WD model in the future, either that or a Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee from the same era.
