Dude, wtf? I said it was based on Hong Kong. Then you link to a source that says that there’s no chosen setting for the movie but based on Hong Kong. What’s going on here?

Uhhh, from what I could find, the city in the animated movie was only based on Hong Kong, not Hong Kong specifically. Any other notes on the setting of Ghost in the Shell say a fictional, Japanese city called Niihama. And from what we can gather, Section 9 is not very multi-cultural. It’s a branch of the Japanese…
Funny story, a few years back some folks here in Finland made a movie about Mannerheim, a national hero who lead the Finnish military effort during WWII and managed to keep our independence and was later chosen as the president, and they made a black person play him. The outrage among those who basically worship the…
Umm...what? The plot point being that she’s a cyborg. And hinting that she could even have been a man for all anyone knew before her cyberization.
I’ve read the original manga, and her Shell is not portrayed (nor described) as non-Japanese. The artist’s depictions of Western women have different facial features in particular. This is similar to her depiction in films and TV so far as well.
In fairness these two films are different with their casting. Damon was given a role created for him being a white guy. Johansson was given a role that’s Asian in name and race.
If its a Chinese man in American movies its progress, if its a white man in a Chinese movie its whitewashing!
the reason why is because we already got a live-action Japanese movie series.
I've seen plenty of people upset by that as well, but a direct to Netflix movie is never going to get as much attention as Scarlett Johansson in a wide release movie.
Yeah, it isn’t white washing, it’s more of the “White Savior” trope, like in Avatar and Tarzan and many other stories and movies the white guy comes into a different country/culture (usually less civilized, but it’s not the case here) and not only does he become better than them at the things they have been doing…
There is one major difference between this and Ghost in the Shell, this Matt Damon is playing a original character not seen before, Scarlet Johansson however is playing a character who already has a full fledged story behind her, she IS Japanese not some American. There are plenty of good Asian Actresses that could of…
Hey at least with Ghost in the Shell they are literally whitewashing a character. This thing isn’t even adapted from anything.
No man... he’s dancing on light.
the whole “Believe” marketing campaign was brilliant and gut wrenchingly sad.
Microsoft via Halo owns several of my most favorite and memorable marketing trailers/campaigns. This ODST one was simply *amazing* and Halo 3's ‘Believe’ marketing campaign shot with documentary style interviews of old soldiers legitimately gave me chills. (If you haven’t watched them, do so now!)
I still get shivers watching this one.
Dress codes are common. So are black people apparently violating them because their hair or how they manage their hair does not conform to those standards, of which the standard is very white.
1) The initial rules specified nothing about headwear, aside from being professional. Look at that outfit at the top. Is it not professional? THAT is what her boss had issue with.
It's an industry event, the public should not be there at all. Been to e3 a bunch and I can't get around the hoards of people running frantically to get their free tshirts. All I want to do is talk to the other devs about stuff and it's impossible with this stuff going on.
