the name of the city is never stated in the movie but it is Hong Kong. if it’s not Hong Kong then where the fuck does the movie take place? because it’s definitely not Japan.

It’s already been mentioned that she is depicted with different facial features than Western characters in the manga. In the movie, a scene compares her directly to another mass production model, and while the scene was meant to show how similar her prosthetic body’s face was similar to that of others, there is a…
The Hamilton outrage ended because the creator offered a suitable explanation (“We want the cast to look like America does today because 1) We want all Americans to be able to relate, and 2) We want to connect America’s past to its present.”). You know, as long as you’re not abusing it, giving an explanation like this…
There are plenty of people who aren’t particularly happy about that. That said, Death Note isn’t so reliant on being set in Japan for its narrative to make sense, and the original story even includes characters from around the world.
This point keeps getting trotted out, but it’s wrong. Her prosthetic body was made to fit into Japanese society.
Well, there’s also a difference between being unable to understand a story and the story not being told well enough to be understood at the level and to the degree that the author intended.
The thing is, T’Challa and Steve Rogers are very similar. You could call them two sides of the same coin, in that they’re both physical and moral paragons of their respective nations. The reason they’re at odds so much (and, paradoxically, why they sometimes work together) is because they’re basically the same…
Could it be that those reactions that seem illogical actually tell us what the character is about? There are a ton of well-written characters that are basically, “archetype but subverted, and then subverted again.” And any good narrative will show you the subversion rather than tell it.
Swim Conch.
You say it jokingly, but it’s kind of true.
Every reply you’ve made has shown a marked refusal to respond to what I actually said. :/ How do you reconcile “deserve” with “less about just compensation”?
That was a really long-winded way of saying, “I’m probably first in line for the chopping block when people decide they’ve had enough of neo-capitalist BS.” Or, since this is Pokemon thread: Krabkumei, use Guillotine!
Reminds me of Chicago/Detroit footwork.
Did you read my last sentence?
The website that went with this was incredible. You flew through the diorama, and there were pretty extensive infolinks associated with the various scenes (the idea was that they’d taken data from recordings of the actual battlefield at a particular instant and then recreated it years later; every figure was supposed…
Depends on what you mean by “because”. I’ve watched plenty of shows because I wanted to be there to catch the intro whenever it came on. The Pokemon Theme also was successful at conveying what was attractive about Pokemon in a way that was very different from how other shows advertised themselves at the time.
I had to look it up, but my hunch was correct: only a handful of people worked on the song. The guitars were real, and there were backup vocalists, but the rest of the work was done by the co-writers/producers. This is kind of a Jason Paige’s Paycheck Matters situation; just because I think he should get compensation…
I feel like the right thing would be for someone to send him a nice, fat check anyway. No one is obligated to, but it would be nice. After all, the theme song was absolutely a huge part of the show’s success.
Actually, the wearing of head scarves as a fashion statement is a part of many black Americans’ cultural identity, both for immigrants and long-time “residents.”
>I said I don’t think every expectation needs to be explicitly listed.
