They know him the best.

I love New York in general, but yes this bit has been supremely delightful. I wonder if some people are going the extra mile due to Preet Bharara’s poor treatment. Not that any of it is out of hand, he’s just been a dick and a charlatan for his entire life.

> As if arguing for discrimination was ever a good idea.

I love how much NY fucking hates trump :-)

nah man. Womanhood is a social gender construct. Female is a sexual characteristic based on genetics. There’s a difference, get up on it.

Isn’t Semenya intersex, not trans?

Maybe, just maybe this is pretty grey one, I can see your argument somewhat, but I see Nancy’s too. I actually end up finally agreeing more with Nancy due to the XY and elevated T levels. I get how deadspin and gawkers sites write things in a black and white my way or the hwy shtick, but, maybe, just maybe you’re

I feel like people really just forget that this already happened and was not really a big deal because the media was respectful of privacy.... but was still a really big deal because there were medals in jeopardy and is definitely responsible for some of todays limits.

Precisely! The qualified person with years of experience has an informed, nuanced stance on the issue and Deadspin misconstrues it and debases her. It’s pretty annoying.

Semenya is a woman, but she’s not female. I don’t understand why Deadspin thinks that this is a simple case of discrimination - it’s extremely complicated, and I’d argue Hogshead-Makar has all of the information and is more qualified to make an informed opinion than any staff writer or editor here.

The problem is that we separate sports along traditional gender lines. A good comparison would be weight classes. At no time was Floyd Mayweather even close to competitive with the heavyweights of his era, but he was considered one of the best boxers because of the weight class system. Similarly, the best woman track a

This is a tough issue because it is not possible to be “fair” to both trans-women and cis-women in sport. If we can accept the assumption that a pre-transition transgender woman has an athletic advantage over cis-women, is it fair to cis-women to have them compete head to head? But is it fair to such trans-women to

Semenya is a woman. She is also not female. She has a Y chromosome. If she did not, the rules that say she must lower her testosterone would not apply to her.

That fact makes asking her to lower her testosterone levels fair. It’s the same thing being asked of trans athletes.

“a condition that in it of itself does not confer on her any specific advantage.”

Imagine thinking you know more about women’s sports than Nancy Hogshead-Makar and deciding to actually write a blog post about it.

Sorry Diana, it’s time to stick with the expert on this.

I don’t see how this is racist in anyway. Honestly, I can’t see any racist ange to this at all. You may be 100% correct that some women feel “feminism is only for white women”, I have no way of knowing that, BUT THIS case seem devoid of racial inequities, as most of the athealtes this women feels are being

This article spends a lot of time attempting to diminish the role testosterone plays in Athletics and implies that it does not give an advantage to Semenya. I’m highly skeptical, given testosterone’s use as a PED going back to the East Germany days. If it is true that Semenya has no advantage, then why not allow all

Pictured are the three women who placed behind Semenya at the Diamond League last week:
