Yeah - bias ply tires.
And then, even if you had radials, you still had drum brakes all around =).
You need to do a Fred Flintstone just to stop.
I distinctly remember driving my dad’s Galaxie to high school a few times and you feel like you use double the leg strength of a modern car just to stop. And his has a dual…
Yeah, they are pretty pricey restored to perfection. You can get decent drivers in the $10-15k range though.
It seems the 1963s are the most sought after model, but I prefer the 64 styling myself.
The most incredible 64 Galaxie I’ve ever seen has the 427 SOHC:
A brother who skips out on school?
Galaxies are awesome. My dad has a 64 in Phoenician Yellow:
Beautiful Galaxie ... shame it had to be replaced. The FE motors were pretty good. My dad’s has well over 160k on it with the original motor and trans:

Hoping to help him restore it back to its former glory soon.
I fill between 10-12 gallons at a fill up. 16 gallon tank.
My car’s theoretical range is between 500-520 miles.
I’ve never had range anxiety ever - and you’re talking to someone whose commute is 88 miles a day.
Exactly. When I wait in line at Costco, I’m maybe in line for 10 minutes maximum. And then I can fill up the car in less than a minute.
Thanks. Already have a perfect cat-back from a Cobra ready to go.
The balancing thing is super useful info though ... will need that.
We should get in touch and share ideas. I’m honestly just a software developer who decided to go big or go home. Shadetree mechanic ;)
Have you gone the Maximum Motorsports route or the FTBR route for bushings?
If you haven’t done so already, save yourself the time and headache and go FTBR.
FTBR’s stuff won’t leave you with misfitting delrin on the upper control arms.
Thanks for the tip.
I don’t have access to the driveshaft that the unit came off from.
I’m considering getting an aluminum driveshaft. Good idea?

Mine is rusty junk right now.
Your stuff looks way cleaner than mine, but I am working on that.
Just finished tearing down everything down to the subframe and will be working on getting it powder-coated pretty soon.
Insurance is cheap on my GT.
The V6s are mostly prime candidates for the 302 swaps since they hook up to the 302 transmission. The T45, as far as I know, was only for the 4.6L.
GTs aren’t super fast but they aren’t as slow as some might have you believe either. I was far more disappointed with the suspension than the…
I’m of the opinion that the prevalence every generation of car is highly fractured and regional - so perceptions of “how many cars are out there” are very biased and skewed towards the region you live in.
For instance, when I travel to San Diego - I see tons of new convertible Mustangs everywhere. You wouldn’t guess…
That’s true. Thank you, quad shocks.
This is why I am converting to an IRS on my GT.
Ford’s biggest problem with these cars wasn’t the body styling - it was the terrible wheel choices for GT and V6 body styles combined with the 4x4 wheel gaps.
These cars can be made to look rather great with the right spring, wheel, and tire package.
With the stock 4x4 stance, you begin to wonder if they had a pact…
So much this. The V6 Mustangs were amazingly popular during this era ... and they looked amazingly bland and terrible.
It’s crazy how bad V6 Mustangs look versus the GTs and Cobras... the V6s had even worse wheel gap (even GTs of this era came as a 4x4 stance), high side wall tires, terribly cheap looking wheel / tire…
Beautiful car, CoryInAustin. I’m a ‘99 GT owner who is converting to IRS as we speak! =)
I think this whole article is a not-so-subtle satirical dig at Mustang drivers because one idiot Mustang driver hit him on his motorcycle and probably nearly killed him.
I can understand being mad at that driver ... but being mad…
And then you have the awkward T45 transmission no one wants that’s in my ‘99 GT, which I am in the middle of an IRS swap on.
I don’t honestly mind the transmission minus the balky and strange reverse engagement. I’m embarrassed to admit how many times I’ve missed getting the car all the way into reverse. Uggh. (It’s…
