That’s true- I think we learned about Emmett Till in middle school (so, early 90's) I think at the time I thought of it as horrifying but in the past. It was pretty jarring to learn it’s not so much in the past. I was just so shocked when two educators with master’s degrees hadn’t ever even learned about it in the

I know I shouldn’t be surprised (especially now), that’s just so different from the “slavery=bad, no exceptions” message we got in elementary school in MI. Although I live in WI now and I’ve run into multiple people (including a HS principal and my husband, a HS teacher) who have never heard of the murder of Emmett

WTF kind of elementary school did you go to!?

Because they’re trying to minimize the chances of a bunch of Nazis showing up and murdering people.

I don’t know the specific laws there, but I know when I was in college in MI there was a law that a gathering of 3 or more people could technically be considered a riot. Of course this was after a bunch of college kids rioted over a Final Four loss, so.....

I think even the presence of a GSA will help, even if he’s not in it- having one kind of helps with overall school culture. Your son obviously has good, supportive parents, and that’s really the most important thing.

Because a) he cares more about himself and people who voted for him than for his own daughter and grandchildren and b) fascists are unbelievably good at rationalizing anything. In his deluded mind, there is a perfectly good reason to support a group who would kill his daughter and grandchildren if given the chance.

That’s what was striking for me too- next thing you know they’ll be adding pitchforks to the mix. And of course a bunch of privileged white kids were using frat-party tiki torches. Grrr.

And thank God for that. The violence was bad enough as it is, imagine what would have happened if they HADN’T backed down and they’d just started shooting. What frightens me is- it’s only a matter of time until it gets to that point. They’re getting more emboldened by the day.

I know I’m a little late to the game, seeing as how it’s no longer Saturday night- but wanted to add a response to this. I’m a school social worker, so I deal with this kind of stuff on the school end all of the time. You are an awesome parent and your son is lucky to have you- believe me, I’ve seen my share of cases

As my husband was yelling earlier tonight, “It’s not POLITICAL correctness, it’s just CORRECTNESS! Being nice to people is CORRECT!”

BLM and standing rock were nonviolent and not armed, so cops are way more comfortable using force against them (I’m not in ANY way saying use of force is justified in those cases, btw). These people are heavily armed and irrational, so THEY get handled with kid gloves. Then again if BLM or Standing Rock were heavily

Exactly. So Republicans need to get off their asses, condemn this garbage with actions (and not just carefully worded tweets) and STOP allowing people like Trump and his racist buddies to have any power. In my mind, HE created this mess by making it ok to be openly racist again, and Republicans know it’s wrong, but

Unfortunately I have a feeling these people are pretty vocal about their views and already have jobs with employers who either share their views or don’t really care. This is Trump’s America now- where there are little to no consequences for being a violent, ignorant, bigoted terrorist.

Seriously, it it against Twitter’s terms of use to use it as a platform to issue threats?

Jump roping was huge at my upper-midwestern elementary school in the 80's, and though we attempted Double Dutch all of the time, we SUCKED at it. I do remember seeing girls in NYC doing it on TV (I swear it was on Sesame Street or Reading Rainbow, or some other PBS show) and being totally awed by it. So I’m pretty

That is such a good way to teach it! If only they hadn’t just cut high school health in my district, I’d steal your idea....

“The fact of the matter is that plenty of illegal aliens voted.”

Yeah I heard that as well. So it’s either a) Usher is a cheater, but doesn’t have herpes b) he’s a cheater AND has herpes or c) none of the above and these women are just looking for fame and fortune. Anything is possible at this point!

I’m guessing that will probably be part of the argument in the lawsuit. Given that a large percentage of the population has it, it would be pretty difficult to prove when someone contracted it and from whom.
