While I agree that we’re in for some bad times ahead, probably the worst two months of our country’s history are coming, I disagree we will be the worst off in the world. As we sit here, Brazil and Mexico’s people and government are literally pretending like nothing is happening. I saw a video of Mexico today where…
“The Italians are already seeing a drop in incidence”
3. It’s not as accurate and leads to sick people getting out of quarantine before they actually stop being sick.
I’ve been telling people more than a month ago... it’s going to hit us hard if we don’t act now.
Two reasons:
The testing won’t improve. Despite all that is known people still can’t get tested. Either tests aren’t available in some areas, or the CDC guidelines say they aren’t eligible to be tested.
This is what I keep telling people that say “we need to get back to normal”. Shit ain’t gonna be normal for a while, like 6 months to a year. Deal with it.
Yeah the real experts are saying social distancing and stay-at-Home should continue for at least 4 more months. Otherwise instead of flattening the curve, we will see it sharply spike about 3 weeks after the current actions end. To a tune of a 7 figure death toll in the US alone.
Mathematically, you have to have a 4 week window. Think about it.
If we were to tomorrow start following the South Korean model of test-and-quarantine, rinse-and-repeat, we’re looking at resuming something resembling post-COVID-19 economy by Summer.
Interestingly, our governor just announced the stay at home order until April 10th at minimum. He went through the straight math of the pandemic and essentially said, “Most of us are going to get COVID-19 no matter what we do.”
I am far from a medical expert but was reading an interview with a virologist (I think that was his title) yesterday. While we don’t yet really know if people can get reinfected, he thought that if they did the second infections would be much less severe than the initial infections and likely wouldn’t be any worse…
You just nailed that on the head right there. I have had quite a few discussions with my wife around the very same thing. How do things go back to normal still knowing that this thing is out there and could strike at any moment.
My hope is that we quickly scale up testing and get needed protection supplies to healthcare workers. Then we can figure out who has it and needs to be treated/quarantined, who had it and recovered, and who is still uninfected. Then we treat each group differently. (Assuming that you can’t get reinfected.) At least…
ACTUALLY... HEB’s Central Market opened up AFTER Whole Foods was a thing. I think quite a few years later.
Yes, HEB was a store before Whole Foods (and before many major chains), but Whole Foods was based on the co-op model and grew organically (haha) around the current iteration, at least before its unfortunate…
Weird. I live in Austin. But, I’ve loved how Amazon has lowered prices on certian Whole Foods items for Prime members. Many times the produce will be cheaper than HEB and/or Wal-mart with far superior quality.
I feel the exact opposite, from my experience at the Whole Foods over here. Before Amazon, there was noticeable empty floor space where product used to be, especially in the produce section. It was like they removed half of the free-standing produce island displays. After Amazon, those islands are back, and filled…
Here’s the thing: Kang can see what they show was trying to do with this more humanistic, empathetic detective story, attempting to branch out of the grim n’ gritty tropes of earlier seasons. But it did it SO POORLY.
Maybe this is why people think black folk can't swim; because every damn time we try someone calls the cops on us. And STFU about "eww, he had socks on". Do you really think the people themselves or their swimsuits are any cleaner (more importantly, do you honestly think EVERYONE gets out of the pool to pee?)
