Native Memphian here. It has taken me a lot of therapy and a lot of real-world experiences to work through my own issues on race. I was certainly brought up to believe the same things as your coworkers.
A lot of people here think they’re not racist if they don’t use certain slurs. It’s insane.
Memphis cops are actually pretty cool and deal with a ton of bullshit.
The cops SHOULD start arresting people for making these calls. It’s racism, it’s harassment, and it wastes the time of the cops. (That’s our tax dollars being wasted.) I know there are laws against frivolous use of emergency services....why aren’t they enforced?
I’m a small town Canadian who lived in Memphis for several years and this is giving me flashbacks to the prime example I use to tell people about the racism I saw while living there.
