You can take some deductions (student loan interest, moving expenses) without itemizing. If this deduction worked the same way it would still benefit those who take the standard deduction

Rich people probably spend more in dollar amount in childcare so they will be able to deduct more. That is why tax credits though better than nothing always benefit the rich more. They are regressive for the most part.
