I think he's boycotting Jason after the Tomb Raider debacle, maybe?

Actually I didn't know because I was responding from my profile dashboard, which you can actually do now in the new commenting system.

Totally agree. I usually go a little higher though (375). In fact, that could be the only temperature option on my oven and I'd probably be fine.

I don't really understand the point of your post.

It's in english. The japanese version has a completely different name and is reportedly way easier.

PSH... everyone should start on 7th Saga... so they know how EASY they have it these days...

BoF2 was clearly a pinnacle of RPG gaming, truly. The game deserves more praise than it typically gets in the hindsight of jrpgs.

I don't think it's WRONG to want them to stick to their guns. I don't think it's realistic to expect them to, not after the media firestorm that ensued after the kotaku article highlighting the rape hit.

Dude, that would maybe work for a full on rape. But you think a game needs that kind of dramatic handling of what amounts to a guy who cops a feel and promptly gets his head blown off? Yeah, the fear of rape can be pretty bad... but someone having to put their life together after a bad guy feels her up? That's

You and I simply disagree. I'm confident that there would be no way to put sexual assault into a game that would satisfy you, despite your saying "if it's well written I would be ok with it." type statements.

Yeah, Rosenberg probably didn't say the right things, or convey the ideas in the most thoughtful way possible. You ended up with two statements at the core of the outrage. The "you'll want to protect her" and then describing the sexual assault scene as a "turning point" or "character defining" or whatever.

They were backed into a corner though and at this point it's become a media witch hunt. What do you expect to happen when the blogs of the world light up with the fires of righteous indignation after the mention of sexual assault. They go into damage control mode.

They couldn't do it in a realistic way, though. The problem is, when sexual assault happens against a man in a situation like this, it's basically straight to the ass-rape. That's something that really can't get included in a game.

But the problem was when they owned it, media outlets (not just gaming ones) lit up with the fire of righteous indignation that generated no end of bad press for the game. Even if they did own it in a poorly thought out, poorly worded way...

No shit man. Sensational media coverage is going to destroy this game. They wanted to re-boot Lara Croft in a world that is brutal, and dangerous, and more realistic. And they're getting fucking crucified for it. The player is in the role of ensuring that Lara doesn't get injured because that's what the player

This is just such a ridiculous... situation. The "outrage" people get at even the hint of a potential sexual assault, the way it was earlier presented by SE or CD PR people, and now this ridiculous backtracking which is borderline pretending sexual assault doesn't exist.

The best suggestion for this segment was Beta Text, I Think. But with this new commenting system it feels like it got entirely lost in the branching response trees.

I Thought the problem with rare earths was the environmental impact of mining them, beyond their rarity.

What he says about story is 100% true. I just don't think the west audience in general identifies well with the "boy hero" archetype from a default position, or really understands it the same way that Japanese players do.

Unfortunately, the game industry in general has become more and more risk averse, and publishers are unlikely to support "risky" titles these days, on either side of the pond.
