I'm just surprised he didn't arrest the Amtrak engineer for destroying government property.

Let me guess, the officer immediately became irate and arrested the train conductor. Cops never want to be held accountable for their stupidity.

I don’t think pay has ever been the driving issue keeping “good” people from becoming cops. With the generous overtime, cops can easily make 6 figures and retire with a full pension after 20 years.

As long as the hiring criteria and management mentality doesn’t change, paying more will just attract more people on a power trip as they can throw their weight around AND make more money.

I guarantee you it’s not a pay issue. It’s a hiring practice (and training) issue.

At least there wasn’t a handcuffed person locked in the police cruiser this time.

Im sure the officer’s report will say that the train was aggressively approaching and failed to obey commands

we investigated ourselves and found the train at fault

Look at other countries, where they have a much better relationship between the cops and the civilians and a lot less incidents of cops shooting people randomly or the like. Now look at the training and testing requirements to be a police person in these countries.

Look up your locals’ pay. My entire local department is over $120k after OT. They’re paid plenty.

But the chutzpah is the officer will sue Amtrak for *his* PTSD and the union will push for him to get early retirement.

Police departments actually actively avoid people who are “too smart”. Many depts reject applicants with IQs deemed too high, believing they’ll become dissatisfied with the job and want to leave.

Officers responded by emptying their clips into the back of the departing train.

I’m amused to see a screenshot of my video in the Bright Sun Films video being featured in this article. (I’m the Canadian adventure photographer interviewed in the BSF video.)

Yet here we are. Russia “won” the Cold War by tricking racist grampa on the facebook machine...

Been watching F1 a long time, and young people don’t know how good they have it. 2024 has been incredible.

That thing is hideous.

At some point, a car getting longer, wider, taller, or heavier becomes a negative. Can’t see the car in front of you. Can’t park in your garage. Can’t fit in a standard (American size aka oversized) parking spot. Can’t get in without a step ladder.

Meh.

Oh good, they raised the headlight position so that they can blind the last few remaining people who weren’t already negatively impacted by the abysmal headlights on the previous model.
