I'm on my 4th tacoma (and a 4runner) in the last twenty years. Never had a differential problem in 400+ thousand miles. Never heard a whine. Sure, I replaced some wheel bearings, but, duh? 

Wait. What is the interior in the lower photo? It’s definitely not a Tacoma (I own one). Is it even a truck? Are you comparing apples to jalapeños (a delicious combination, but quite dissimilar)?
