It’s definitely disturbing in its detachment and weirdness, but I found it numbing after a few minutes. I’ve never agreed with the “torture porn” label in regard to Hostel, because despite the sadistic acts it portrayed, there was certainly a sense of moral judgment against the torturers, and sympathy for the victims.

What does God need with an organist?

You know who else was passionate? Pol Pot!

I watched Last House on the Left not knowing much about it, and expecting a cheesy exploitation flick. But at least until the 2nd half of the movie (when the parental revenge kicks into motion) it’s still one of the most profoundly disturbing things I’ve seen in a film. The unpolished, almost awkward performances and

I'm curious to know why you prefer Guinea Pig 2 over Hostel. I've tried watching the Guinea Pig films, and I did find the body horror startling, but didn't find them very frightening. To be honest they seemed more pornographic than Hostel, at least insofar as Hostel has more of a conventional plot and characters.

Welp, I’ve only seen Hostel and Hostel 2, and while neither was any masterpiece, Hostel did scare and deeply unsettle me, speaking to my deepest fears of imprisonment, torture, extreme bodily harm, and Eastern Europeans. And the escape sequence was pretty tense. Hostel 2 though I can barely remember at all.

This piece started out being about Eli Roth, but then abruptly was not about Eli Roth! But I thought it was still about Eli Roth, so I was deeply confused!

But couldn't it be, you know, magic poison or whatever the fuck?

I don't get the disdain for the Sand Snakes! They seemed like potentially cool characters that the show did nothing with. But that wasn't their fault, dammit!

That scene takes on a whole new meaning if you know that he was actually blasting Fishbone's "Ugly." Mind blown!

I truly believe that Snyder would be one of our top tier filmmakers, if he could marry his visual style to any ability whatsoever to convey authentic humanity. He seems like a nice enough fellow, but his movies come off like they're made by an alien with a textbook knowledge of human emotions and motivations, but no

Well, I have to confess that I enjoyed both the 300 comic and the film. I hate when people talk about turning your brain off and enjoying something mindlessly, but I guess that's more or less the level that I enjoy this story on. It's very much like when I was a dumb kid and play-acted WWII stories with my dumb

I'm not sure what it means either, but I just found the protagonist for my next erotic novel!

Sad upvote.

New phone, who dis?

A description of Snyder that I've seen that I find pretty accurate is "extremely talented and well-meaning filmmaking robot."

I'm positive there was, and it got taken out.

Creepy flame voice is why it's important to use a proper charcoal chimney starter for your backyard barbecues instead of lighter fluid.

It's too bad that AVC passed over covering Claws. It's the surprise gem of the summer!

It's puzzling, because you'd think that a show with autism as its very premise would be interested in an authentic portrayal of autism. I mean it's such a challenging proposition to begin with, why bother if you're not interested enough in your subject to put in the effort to do it right?
