I had bunion surgery at 15, but I still do really want to wear some toe spreaders around the house just because, for me, foot discomfort (too hot, cold, sore, or smushed) is very closely tied to my moods. However, it’s winter here now so I don’t ever want to be barefoot.

Agreed. The reality shows I enjoy are house flipping, baking, or gardening shows. At least they’re not nakedly predatory.

Most folks here are probably too young to remember the documentary An American Family. It put the life of the Loud family (real name) on prime-time TV.

It became Kate + 8 and then Kate + Date. . . . the show went on for years and years.

She apparently didn’t visit him after sending him away. She also didn’t even think about sending him to stay with his father to see if he does better in a different environment (he obviously did).  Instead she had him institutionalized for several years until his father got him out and she didn’t even show up for the

If an adult wants to be ridiculous on tv....that’s their choice.  But the kids have no say in it, and I don’t think it should even be legal.  I feel the same way about it’s replacement, the family vloggers.

I was one of a few kids. My parents were spread super thin. I was heavily neglected to the point I’ve never been able to have lasting, intimate relationships with people.

Because that’s what happens when you have too many kids.

He went on Alex Jones, and apparently even Alex Jones was like “Yikes” at some points.

Kanye is the kind of person who is narcissistic enough that he believes himself the exception to Nazis anti-black prejudice.

I didn’t grow up in a big family. I’m an only child. My aunt, though, had eight kids. And yes, her husband was a deadbeat. The kids were either at my nan’s or my mothers, being fed. No problem with that, but one of the unlocked for happenings was that the oldest boy was basically neglected. He complained constantly

There were some excerpts of her journals from the time published and Kate was totally abusive towards Collin. 2 yr olds push boundaries and she went into violent rages in order to deal with them.

I am stunned some homeowner didn’t start strangling her.

Correlation without proof of causation here, but both of my parents came from large (8+) sibling families going back three generations. Both of my parents are/were a hot fucking mess about finances, child-raising, religion, and morality. I wasn’t able to shed the feeling that success looked like what they had until my

I see you’ve met Hildi.

This. I think having 8 children by herself (and I think Jon wasn’t working initially when he moved out or tried to be a DJ or something) meant she had limited time and emotional resources to deal with a “problematic” child and immediately pawned him off on help. Which is why it’s generally not a great idea to have

I don’t think it was the show that ruined the family, it was probably the stress and pressure of two polar opposites having six more kids. THEN the stress and pressure of choosing to film all that. The money was helpful, but having eight kids is no small thing. I can only imagine what that did to the kids themselves.

I’m sure him being defiant and Kate being controlling was (and maybe is) an infinite loop.

They only wanted to have 3 kids. Kate had issues with getting pregnant. It’s no one’s fault that they happened to get pregnant again with as many kids as they did. They choose not to abort all, but 1. Raising so many kids is expensive.

I was against these types of shows from the beginning.
