Some are quite articulate but they get buried under the overwhelming majority of people who are just trying to be funny or apparently think that just because they didn’t like a game, found it too hard or it’s just not for them, it must be objectively terrible.

If it’s a game I’m already aware of somehow and know I want it, then no. Mixed or negative reviews might put me off adding a game to my wishlist but that’s about it - and then I might hear/see good things about it elsewhere and come back and add it. If there’s a game with mixed/negative reviews that I expected to be

Yep. I just went over 1,000 games on Steam and about 90% of those were key activations - I wouldn’t have that many games otherwise, as most of them are from Humble (and other) bundles and third party key sites. I’ve never actually written a review but I keep thinking I should start doing them for the games I actually

^This. The system already allowed for people who got review copies by marking their reviews with ‘This player got the game for free’ (or words to that effect) but those reviews still counted. I get that people are less likely to write a ‘fake’ review if they bought directly on Steam but if it’s obvious that people are

The PS3 is backwards compatible with PS1 games, just not PS2 games (except for the very early models, but the PS2 game performance was never great).

The PS4 has no backwards compatibility so it won’t play any PS1 or PS2 games you have on disc. The best thing it has is Playstation Now, which is a streaming service that allows you to play PS3 games on a PS4 or PC, but requires a monthly subscription.

I really hear you about demos - that’s a lost art! But as someone else just said, you can just buy it on Steam, play it for an hour and ask for a refund if you don’t like it.

You’re correct in your distinction but, yeah, as a video game genre they’re usually referred to as anti-gravity racers, even though the vehicles are clearly using some sort of MagLev technology.

Looks more like MagLev.

I’m so glad you learned more from Picard and Sisko than you did from Kirk.

The best thing about No Man’s Sky is that I finally got into Elite: Dangerous. I’ve owned it since release day (bought it the day before to take advantage of the pre-order discount), tried to get into it then, then again when it was released on Steam and I was able to activate it on there, and again at Christmas when

Yeah, it’s like appalling is pretty high on the scale of being disgusted/outraged by something so it’s odd that you would use such an adjective to describe something but then immediately temper it by using a tame adverb like that. It’s like saying ‘I was appalled! Well, okay, maybe I wasn’t appalled, but I can’t think

Well box office bomb is one that doesn’t make back its budget + marketing costs domestically (even if it does turn a profit when international box office is taken into account). But ‘flop’ is used both ways - as in commercial flops and critical flops - so, yes, looks like it’s a critical flop but that doesn’t mean it

I sell legitimately on G2A (unwanted bundle keys mostly) and so things like this suck because they give the rest of us sellers a bad reputation.

Just a view from the flip side here - I’ve used G2A quite a bit over the last couple of years, both buying and selling, and I’ve never had a single problem with any of the keys I’ve bought but have been forced to refund so many buyers that have claimed they were given used keys (when I know they weren’t used) because

I only wish I saw that many Pokemon when I boot it up - I walked for an hour yesterday and found nothing but 3 Pokestops, which I couldn’t use because I’m not even level 5 yet because I’ve only found 2 Pokemon so far. And it’s not like I live in the middle of nowhere, there are apparently just no Pokemon in my town.

Well the general consensus is that it will be revealed at the Tokyo Game Show in September, which is only weeks away now that we’re almost into August, but there are rumours of some official announcements in the press in the weeks leading up to that.

Same here! I have the same problem - I first tried to play a Civilization game about 20(!) years ago and just didn’t get it, although I took to RTS like a duck to water. I’ve tried several times to get into several different 4X games (mostly Civ, at the behest of friends who play it online), and I’ve got my head

People over 20 still have parents.
