I love Julianne Moore, and it would have been interesting to see her in that role, but having seen McCarthy in it, it’s hard to imagine anyone else inhabiting Lee Israel.
Dean Wesrey feels like an American person making fun of a Japanese person trying to come up with an American name.
I was in Homer in September — and I went to the Safeway like an idiot!
I’ve always disliked mayo; it’s the reason why I have to be wary of any ‘sub party platters’, since there’s a good chance there’s already mayo on every goddamned sandwich. I’m the master of the mayo-free potato salad.
My wife and I saw Cold War a couple weeks ago, even knowing it would be on Amazon Prime in a month or so since it’s their studio. We wanted to see Roma in 70mm, but it only played for one week in one theater, and we couldn’t get our schedules to line up. We could have seen a non-70mm showing, but we just ended up…
I just watched Brazil a couple days ago, and was thinking “Katherine Helmond’s still alive, right? EW did a Who’s the Boss reunion piece in the last year or so, and she was in it.” What a bummer, RIP.
Everything Will Be Alright in the End and The White Album are Weezer’s third- and fourth-best records in my opinion, and greatly revived my interest in the band after Raditude and Hurley. Pacific Daydream was so disappointing— I’d say the delta from White down to Pacific is the greatest one-album drop of their career,…
I spent about 50 hours with BotW, completing the game with about 50 shrines and all the Divine Beasts. I can’t think of another game (since, well, Ocarina) where I’d intend to play for half an hour and end up on a 4-5 hour jag. (The fact that I could play it anywhere certainly helped).
I really enjoyed this write-up.
You know, if it weren’t for Sen. Kloubchar berating her aide, I would be totally fine with a president who eats salad with a comb when a fork is not available.
I think giving Roma Best Director and Best Foreign-Language film was a way to say “We loved this film, but (a) you put it out on Netflix (shudder) and (b) it suggests racism is still a thing! (drops monocle)”
I’d like to see Roma win Picture (and Foreign-Language) and Cuarón for Director and Cinematography, Spider-Man: ITSV for Animated, Minding the Gap for Documentary, Malek, Colman, Grant and King for the acting awards, First Reformed and Can You Ever Forgive Me? for the screenplay awards, The Favourite for Editing, and F…
Hot take: Paul Feig is a delight!
As a show that’s loosely serialized at best, this may not be relevant, but I had only seen a few extant episodes of The Simpsons when I arrived at college in 1996, and over my freshmen year, I came to know pretty much the whole canon by watching two or three syndicated episodes each night after dinner.
What’s that? Sorry, I couldn’t hear you over this Super Metroid music.
I’ll always love Shudder to Think’s classic “X-Freedom T-Shirt”.
I too love The Adventure of Link. It asks a lot of its players— it’s the first game where I can vividly remember hurling my controller— but I agree that it’s levelling system allowed you to manage the difficulty well. The downstroke was a huge boon to Link’s skill set, and the game’s harsh approach to death did lead…
I played Resident Evil 2 on the N64 back in 2001, surrounded by my roommates, and generally it was a pretty fun experience. I played Resident Evil on the GameCube in 2003 while my now-wife was sleeping off the flu in our bedroom, and while it got pretty creepy, I was able to progress through.
Thankfully, Mellencamp’s little pink house remains secure.
