I had no idea that Roger Deakins had been nominated 13 times before he won for Blade Runner 2049 two years ago, and now for 1917.

Don’t be a dummy. Hildur Guðnadóttir was the front-runner for this award, and deservedly so. Turns out you can add a great lead performance and a great score to a Taxi Driver ripoff, and the Academy will award the parts worth awarding.

I realized after the fact that The Irishman was the only Best Picture nominee this year that didn’t win at least one Oscar.  

I’d say Moonlight three years ago, but before that, yeah, maybe No Country. Certainly not goddamned Birdman!
