Both “sides” have those same options. You also have to consider that editing or turning off cameras, or turning on cameras later in an interaction that eliminates earlier context, are generally very obvious when even casually scrutinized.
The issue is the not so subtle difference between merely recording which is constitutionally protected, and live streaming which creates potential for escalation and reduced safety for officers and suspects.
Most major jurisdictions already have have body worn and squad car cameras. The ones that don’t, should be required by statute.
This is gets into a really interesting grey area.

The other big issue with leasing is if you aren’t extremely careful on your annual mileage vs. what the lease allows, you can put yourself in a very bad spot with over mileage charges, should you want to turn the car back in.
