Overall, sure. But on Black Friday itself not so much.

That's fair. Older sets of a mess — although admittedly I got back into the game at Darksteel (breaking at Visions) so I didn't suffer through it in real-time.

Something about that just irks me grammatically. *shrug*

Man when did Steel get promoted to full partner? He's kind of messing up the flow of the old "Dewey, Cheatum, & Howe" letterhead.

To be fair they've had a couple of more "real fuckups" since then: Affinity and Faeries comes to mind, as well as JTMS in general.

Magic is my favorite game of all time, but I definitely agree that Netrunner has a far superior design.

For the record, what you encountered were not "professional" players. What you encountered were mostly the misbegotten souls living at the bottom of the Levine Trench (scroll down to post-script).

This headline is grossly misleading. Just because the Commander products are admittedly plagued by the Legacy-influenced secondary market, that doesn't mean that WotC/MTG is "struggling to stay relevant to casual players".

They started getting some real-world quotes again a few years back, but it's still very rare and only in the core sets that aren't tied to a flavorful world.

It is Tiffany Aching; Wintersmith is her third book (of four) — the last of which, I Shall Wear Midnight, is one of the darkest damned things Pratchett has ever written.
