A whole generous B- for what is, as far as I’m concerned, the best show on TV and certainly the most centered around women’s experience of any show I’ve ever seen. I see parallels to Breaking Bad, another show I loved, and yet can’t help but notice people are far more unforgiving toward June, living in a literal

finally she does something that points to an actual lasting narrative of potential redemption

My theory is that Serena may get her own child someday, but her life will be very lonely. Even if she is cleared for bringing evidence, her life will be one very long and very public penance not just for Gilead, but for her own personal beliefs that were warped into Gilead. Serena boarded the train and there’s no way

It was the first episode this season where something very significant happened, and I liked most of it. The previous 10 episodes could’ve been easily condensed into 2 or 3.

This was an epic episode and a triumph. I feel like the A.V. Club hates everything sometimes

Dude. You somehow missed a super important thing. Serena set Fred up. This has been a set up since she returned from Canada. She and Tulelo made this plan to get her over the border and Fred in prison. All the clues were always there. We just didn't see them because we assumed of course she'd betray June to get Nicole

Adopt who, I want to ask those jerks. It’s not like there is an endless supply of babies out there (and there should be no judgement against those who want a baby rather than an older child). In the US, the chances of an infant going up for adoption are worse than getting struck by lightning.

Not to mention those surrogates who do it because they enjoy the experience of being pregnant and giving birth.

You have just as much right to want biological children as any straight, fertile person. The way in which people create their families is personal and private. I’ve gotten a lot of shit and seen a lot of pursed lips over the years when people find out I was a surrogate. They just don’t think it’s right to go to

Do you know any foster parents? I do. Foster care isn’t a “job” in any kind of traditional or modern sense, and foster care payments are not payment for services rendered. It’s essentially volunteering to care for a child while having their expenses covered (in part). But regardless of how someone sees it, fostering

Never said that wasn’t the case. The right to terminate on either side should be there. She shouldn’t force them to continue the pregnancy and they shouldn’t force her, either. There are inherent risks on both sides and both sides should understand this and think through it all.

That scenario should be in the contract, and that’s why specialist legal advocates should be involved, and why it should all be spelled out in advance. The biological parents should also understand the risk involved.

Thank you. People who either don’t have children or have been able to have their own biological children LOVE to scold infertile or gay couples on how they should be fostering/adopting. If their arguement is so strong why don’t THEY adopt? Why are the couples who need extraordinary measures to have a biological child

People (in the comments) absolutely love to paint couples who have conception barriers as monsters for pursuing any options other than adoption, especially through foster care, and they also love to never talk at all about the race and class concerns surrounding adoption and foster care systems.  They love it as much

Bait? Self-righteous? And here I thought I was just having a discussion with a stranger on the internet. Why so aggro?

Those are really thoughtful questions. I am often very hesitant to post publicly like this because there is SO much to this - it’s impossible to cover everything I think & feel and so often people do not want to have a discussion, they want to drive home a point. But I really appreciate the chance to discuss it, so

Imma reply to this because I have a child on the way through surrogacy right now. (Not sure it’s a good idea to weigh in, not really looking to be eviscerated for my choices, but here goes.)

I don’t see anything wrong with surrogacy as long as:

1) The surrogate and the biological parents are on the same page with every aspect
2) The surrogate is compensated fairly (this is obviously subjective)

If you’re a surrogate and you are against abortion, don’t be a surrogate for a family who would ask you to

I get that it’s fashionable to hate on him in some Brooklyn hipster circles, but I find pretty much all of his movies to be fantastic, and disagree pretty much with this (except the parts about his shitty defense of Polanski and Weinstein, fuck him for that shit). I honestly feel like “bad” reviews like this are more

I don’t know that you can really go after him on black speaking roles. His last two films, The Hateful Eight and Django Unchained, were led by strong black characters, and he does wonderful things with Samuel L Jackson in Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown, and three of the main leads in Death Proof are black women.
