That’s a version of the story created centuries after the original Greek myths. Athena is only tangentially related to Medusa’s death (giving aid to Perseus) in the original myths. She also has nothing to do with Medusa being a gorgon, nor having snakes for hair.

I was thinking the same thing. I was just in San Antonio over NYE for my first visit and I thought it had a surprisingly entertaining downtown area. I’d avoid it like the plague in summer, but in winter, I’d go back.
