Put this on after I heard the news:

My pop-culture weekend was all shiny and chrome.

"The Christmas Shoes" is some low-hanging fruit for a Hatesong article, but I actually thought the interview was pretty funny. Now that I think about it, I enjoyed yesterday's Hatesong article as well.

Cool song. Guess it makes up for the fact that no one at the AV Club chose this:

No idea what kind of music you're into, but for what it's worth this was my introduction to Cornershop:

I'm no audiophile and I own mostly CDs. I listen to CDs in the car and on a shitty old boombox in the kitchen while I'm cooking, MP3s on the laptop hooked up to the Logitech speakers that came with my old computer and stream using my phone and the cheap earphones that came with it. Hell, up until late last year I had

Yeah, I can't imagine any label would boast about their deluxe limited-edition 180 gram reissues being mastered from CDs - though on the other hand, if the original masters have been used, this will more than likely be advertised prominently. However, if a record has a sticker proudly boasting "First Time On Vinyl"

The Hanson Brothers (the hockey-themed Nomeansno side project) put on one of the best punk rock shows I've ever seen; it was held at the community center in my tiny hometown, to an audience of less than 100 people. And whenever I've mentioned The Hanson Brothers as being one of the best bands I've ever seen live,

A Cornershop feature would be pretty cool, as they've released 9 albums, dozens of EPs and singles, numerous collaborations and have had handful of side projects as well (Clinton, etc.) A fair bit of diversity from album to album, too; it would probably make for an eclectic and enjoyable playlist, but probably a bit

I meant that they are printing vinyl discs using the CD masters. Thanks for pointing that out.

Given that your average vinyl reissue costs somewhere between $30 and $40 and that same album on CD would likely be a tenth of that price (or less) with exactly the same sound quality, I think it's a valid point.

The snark is strong in this article, but the out-of-context Young quote about vinyl being a "fashion statement" was actually a comment on recent vinyl re-releases being mastered digitally printed from the CD masters, which essentially makes purchasing these albums on vinyl for better sound quality pointless.

What is your damage, Heather?

ONE-TWO-THREE-FOUR!

No Simpsons quotes!? Ay caramba!

Thanks, Obama!

Actually, I just went to the NPR home page and I'm listening to it now. So, I guess that word doesn't mean what it….means.

The first time I heard Coldplay was at a music festival (quite a while ago, as they were billed below Bjork and Primal Scream on the main stage). The band seemed genuinely happy to be there and Martin was so friendly and engaging throughout their set that I kind of felt bad for not liking their boring music.

I quite enjoyed Despicable Me 2 - Gru is a tad less misanthropic but still cantankerous enough to be funny and the supporting cast is solid, too. Overall I think anyone who liked the first one would probably find plenty to enjoy in the second one as well. But I have my doubts about the ability of the Minions to carry
