That show really shaped the way I listen to music in that they played ALL forty songs based on their chart position, so you'd get to hear songs from many different genres one after another (the songs that made up my earliest mix tapes, as recorded off the radio with my Zellers brand ghetto blaster in grade 5). My

I LOVE Sandinista. A lot of people seem to have the "cut x-number of songs to make it a solid double or single LP" way of thinking with that album, but the wide variety of songs is why I enjoy it so much. It's not like you have to listen to the whole thing in one sitting; I used to have the double cassette and

Lemmy IS God!

Was going to put (affects "Brit singing in Yank accent" accent) right before, but thought that would push the reference from being somewhat obvious to completely reeking of effort ;)

Totally agree with both points. I've listened to some of his albums and he is a talented MC, but the sad thing is a lot of the folks who hold Jay-Z in such high esteem probably wouldn't know Rakim from Rockwell.

I have a great deal of respect for the man and he was an undeniably talented musician, but I have been trying for almost twenty years and aside some of the early stuff with the Mothers I cannot get into Frank Zappa. Again, lots of respect but for the most part I find it a chore to listen to.

For me, OK Computer is when they first became interesting. I've never owned Pablo Honey, and I have all their other albums but The Bends is the only one I didn't bother ripping to the computer.

I'd say Alapalooza is his weakest (though I haven't heard much from his "post-mustache and glasses" period). Compared with previous albums, the originals are uninspired and the parodies are by-the-numbers. Worst of all, Jurassic Park is nowhere near as (unintentionally) funny as the original.

I second that. No mean feat considering it didn't even have a polka medley.

The Simpsons, definitely (first 8 seasons anyway). Should have mentioned this as a "dealbreaker" last week, but conversely I've always found it hard to relate on a deeper level to anyone who doesn't find the Simpsons funny - even worse when they make a point of saying they don't understand why people think it's funny.
