To be clear, my dad isn’t mad at Whitmer for taking away from his business; it’s because of the inconsistencies of the shut down. Which is reasonable. What isn’t, is this protest.  Nothing about it is a mature, civilized response to someone trying to protect you from.... quite literally yourself.

What you’re describing still seems to be a gift card but in a shittier state which allows “fees”, but not allowing the balance to be zeroed.

For a promo /award card; they wouldn’t need to go through that charade in all states, they can just set the expiration date and zero the accounts based on their terms of the promo…

The dirty little secret, which you get just a tiny glimpse of here, is that the “sophisticated back end services” to support all these systems??? Is a complete house of cards. Nobody really understands the whole system architecture for the phone app, for how cars get provisioned and for how features are supported.

In this day and age, how does someone embark on a long trip and not have a CC handy, or at least a number for one of theirs? Incidents happen and even if you are not planning on it, a credit card is extremely important.
