My guess here is that Sony Japan hired a Marketing CO to do the comercial, they showed the finished product to some Sony exec and, i presume, he-she hasnt any idea of cartoons or anime to connect the dots and gave the OK.

Its a 2 part love-hate game. On the reviewer´s side i agree on the trade to get them all (i loved trading and battling with my friend on red-blue, it made me love the game mechanics, besides the godamn faulty gb link cable).
