The issue is that it’s not actually “creative application.” They’re government programs under the purview of the executive. He would literally be exercising one of the basic functions of his job, which is telling the government how, specifically, to do shit.

You are correct that there would be lawsuits filed! But bar

As a former Saturn owner I agree.

We’re in a bad bad place and it’s not as simple as “GO GET VACCINATED”

What you’re advocating for, however, is more death. Sure, the current Covid variant isn’t especially deadly, but with each infection you’re essentially playing Russian roulette when it comes to mutations.

I am constantly astonished people like you actually exist

You already had to get MMR and other vaccines to attend kindergarten. Stop with your fake outrage.

Please go back and re-read what I wrote.

He could:

Yes. When you consider all the externalities caused by burning fossil fuels, the price of gas has historically been far too low in this country. It’s been so low that lots of people view cheap gas as a right. “Used to cost me $20 to fill up, now it’s $25. Thanks Biden!”

Meanwhile there are people frothing at the mouth at such a pledge and they are quite convinced that he’s coming (personally) to take away their trucks.  Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

Perhaps we could wait for proof that electrics will actually be good enough to replace gas cars

The broad goal is to reduce CO2 emissions. In the automotive industry, hybrids and PHEVs are an excellent stepping stone toward this goal and I think should be included in goals like “X% of cars will be electric by Y”. Skipping straight to EVs is a nice moonshot and I think the reality will be a slower transition.

My wife had an 01 Saturn SC when we first met. I went to change the oil after hearing she hadn’t had it done in a while. Nothing came out. The car was a tank and just kept going, slowly grinding itself to bits, but never stopping.

I get tired of interior griping. This car is fairly typical of its time. Are today’s interiors really that much better? They’re still plastic, but now tarted up to look like metal or worse “piano black” or leather. I for one miss actual fabric seats, vs. the scratchy woven plastic canvas offered today if the car

...and this is a MUCH nicer car than any Cavalier. NP for sure.

I had an SC2 years ago that burned a quart every 800-1000 miles (this was between 100K-140K miles). Just kept a jug in it and topped off every couple weeks. At 35-40 mpg, the cost was basically negligible.

I seldom park on the street so I would prefer to have it on my side for shoehorning the kiddo into his car seat

I hear griping about the quality of the interior materials, but I look at the pix and see a 20-year-old interior that looks no worse now than it did on Day One. So scratch that particular demerit, it’s invalid.

This might be the current used car market clouding my judgement, but almost any running, driving, manual-equipped car with a four-figure price seems like an automatic NP.

For me some days it is about the poll as much as the car, and I am happy to say that it looks like a majority of people here recognize the early chrome bumper styling of the C3 Corvette, a big block, a four speed, and stock appearance are worth something.
