2 years seems excessive, but it depends on why they don't want you around, what your position is and if there's a no-compete clause in your contract. Sometimes the reasons you shouldn't be around are purely political and have nothing to do with your performance.

I reject the idea that everyone is overworked, mostly because I know it isn't true. Some managers, believe it or not, are really great at managing the time of the people who work for them and ensure that their staff never become overburdened.

Clearly this advice is not for the overworked. Though, I've often found that employers expect full plates to magically get larger via the mysterious and undocumented process of "unpaid overtime" which is totally "optional".
