I think about this a lot whenever I get the itch to buy some car I lusted over as a kid and find out what the real horsepower numbers were. That IROC-Z with the 5.7 TPI made 225 horsepower? Over time with wear and drive train loss it’s probably under 200 now.  Never meet your childhood heroes.

Somebody here has a big chip on their shoulder. I hear the the term flyover states far more from the people who live in those states than I ever hear from coastal people. Plenty of states other than California opt into higher emissions standards and it is a choice, each state gets to make. Are you saying states

What larger picture? Abuse of power?

Came for this, not disappointed, although my version is a little shorter:

FIFY

A horse drawn carriage? But what if there were mares pulling it?

This comment needs more stars. That debate was nearly 20 years ago and Congress has done nothing.

Neutral: Pay for your damn pollution!

True, but Nissan’s beef had aged too much. It was starting to mold, and it smelled a little funny, like a used car or rental lot.

re: “There’s also a missing pro-states’ rights, limited federal government argument you’d expect to be made from a conservative administration, but whatever.”

We need a carbon tax NOW so that the baby boomers will have to pay SOMETHING before they die. It obviously won’t be enough to pay back the damage they did, but holy shit if they die and get away with it scot-free...

CA’s ability to set it’s own standard is enshrined in the Clean Air Act because they had standards (started by Reagan) before the EPA even existed. Trump is trying to unilaterally change the law, and he can’t do that.

most trucks are work trucks

With this administration, I expect them to issue a Fiat order instead and then wonder WTF to do with all these 500s.

The other part of the ‘overpaid’ misconception is the UAW workers who were bringing home 90-100K+ were skilled trades (patternmakers, draftsmen, etc.) who only brought that kind of money in when they were working 60+ hours a week. John Q Doe the assembly line worker doesn’t make anywhere near that.

Because they took a perfectly good truck and turned it into that stupid fucking thing making it no longer a perfectly good truck.

Bingo. People would instead spend $10,000 on a used car that has features the ultimate strip down car doesn’t. You’ll never find enough of a market for people willing to give up all of the features we now take for granted in order to get a new car for high-end lawn mower money.

the White House will formally revoke California’s legal right

Only when it’s convenient, of course.

Why does that lying, fascist, loofa-faced, Shitgibbon hate the planet so much?
