As a career statistician that has done federal cost benefit analysis, his comparisons are pretty lacking. Unpopular opinion: Flying is actually an incredible value given that the above-mentioned flying greyhound bus can put you anywhere in the country in a handful of hours and just about anywhere in the world in less than a day. Obviously it would be nice if it were cheaper and more comfortable, but still.

What matters is not only the mass of the snow, but the degree to which it has turned into something resembling ice, which it can do with surprising ease if conditions are right -- say, it gets a bit warm the next day, then freezes down again the following night, while the car sits there.
