I’m not the original owner, but I have a ton of service records, and the only non-drivetrain related repairs I’ve seen have been the cupholders... 3 times.

I’m not having any problems with the body on my 200k plus km E39 M5...
Again, you’re so wrong it’s not funny.
Fair. But I mean people can always Do It Wrong. Applying some super duper zip ties and then snipping the ends is less work than putting on snow chains, so if the product included the tool and the instructions say what they’re supposed to do, I don’t know that there’s really a valid beef to pick.
Man, don’t make this comments section like the comments section of so many/all websites; these thoughtful boys got their mother a gift. Can’t you just leave it at that?
My 335 hasn’t been all that costly to own. I’ve added over 64k miles to it since I bought it as a CPO with 8k on the odometer and if I add everything up including tires and the soon to be replaced gasket, I’ll still be under 3k in expenses. I’d call that very reasonable for a car that can hit 60 from a standstill in…
All these re-posted articles remind me of just how good Jalopnik used to be, and just how bad it is now.
It is this kind of mentality that leads to legal teams requiring we have warnings on coffee cups.
That uh . . . was a very odd twist ending, but yes, agreed. I saw some people suggesting they were going to sell the parts, which, OK, maybe, no idea what else these parts would work for, but how much time and money are you going to spend stripping, storing and selling the parts? You sure that’s enough to be worth…
They didn’t want VW denyong buybacks based on condition, especially since the settlement is all based on the condition / value of the vehicles when the scandal broke.
They didn’t think anyone was stupid enough to go to the trouble of doing it, much less report it on a blog.
No, fuck those clowns who thought they’d “get revenge” by stripping the cars, and especially fuck those ones who were public about it. I never side with companies, but being a dick and stripping down a car because you think you are an armchair lawyer and it’s “technically allowed” is something a 4th grader would do.
And potentially making it a tougher & longer process for those are in line to turn their intact cars back in. They are paying me $11,000.00 to walk away, I have no problem giving them back an intact car.
Even if VW was able to sell every single piece of non-engine part off of every single recalled car, this is still a punitive decision- you think those parts just strip themselves and store themselves? There is no way that this isn’t still a nightmare for VW and I’m pretty sure they’re getting the idea of just why they…
Thank you! It was so loosely worded so that John in California who got in a fender bender with his TDI and never had it repaired would still be offered a settlement. Not so Joe in Cincinnati could strip every possible piece off the car (that by the way, was presumably on his car at the date of the settlement) and try…
You’ve already stripped your car, haven’t you?
Why? They have to scrap the vehicles.
I think they shouldn’t. Fuck those bad faith actors. They should have to put it back together.
@Frank Grimes: Just because you can't understand your modern car doesn't mean I don't understand my modern car. 95% of repairs can still be done by any committed amateur. Most cars have sub-$500 options for accessing their proprietary brains. Personally, I *love* having the car tell me what it thinks is wrong. …
If you get into a highway accident with a new car these days, you can walk away with some cuts and bruises sometime.
