Agreed. Hopper would’ve played it too arch. Harris was capable of delivering on the gentle creator side as well as the ferocious distempered god aspect. It’s a more delicate balance than it probably seemed before they started shooting. I can’t see Hopper selling those quiet moments of describing Truman’s childhood

Sadly, the prevailing attitudes on Battle-Pugs have changed since the 80's. The Pugs, meanwhile, remain frustratingly noncommital about the entire endeavor. And all endeavors, really. Lead a Pug to war or take a Pug to the park, his enthusiasm remains impressively static either way

The one for Titanic was pretty amazing, too. I’m sure it’s because Spielberg and Cameron both got personally involved in the process. It makes all the difference in the world.

Yeah, that is unambiguously disqualifying for this list. I’d have it at #1, but could see some putting it somewhere in the top five. To not have it on the list at all is gross negligence. It’s the funniest comedy of the last 20-25 years. By a mile.

Hi, Bob.

I saw Pig in a theater full of people like this. Most of the audience were laughing at places where it really wasn’t appropriate. They seemed to be reacting more to the film that they expected to see rather than the film that they were actually watching.

Yeah, and he was even better in “For All Mankind”. Do people just not like Joel Kinnaman, for some reason? This is the first I’ve seen people express this kind of frustration with him. Is this like the Anthony Mackie thing where some people just dislike them for reasons that are hard to pin down?

I think the last time that I genuinely laughed at a fart joke was in 1994 when Henry Rollins said in a spoken word performance that he has trouble with idealizing women and as an example claimed that he can only imagine them delicately pooting puffs of talcum powder.

made me smile so wide for so long that the muscles creating a smile got tired. Which I don’t think I’ve ever felt before, at least consciously.”

It was amazing. More than one of the best social satires I’ve seen in a minute, it was also just one of the best sci-fi comedies I’ve ever seen. It was like They Live through an Atlanta filter. The performances were pitch perfect and it has one of the most consistent and effective uses of tone ever. Plus, it looks

Ah, I see. That makes more sense.

As time has passed, I actually think it’s kind of cool that The Wire never got nominated for anything. It’s almost like the show was so realistic that it didn’t even read to the Academy as theatrical. Like they just thought that it was a sad reality show or something. And now it can stand forever as the prime example

Yeah, I’m no lawyer or anything, but calling famous gay people to the stand just to testify that they don’t know anything about this seems like a remarkably weak character defense.

Yeah, even if intelligence people do sometimes talk that way (and I’m in no way certain that they even do), they sure as shit shouldn’t do it in an actual movie. It’s confusing and goofy and way too winking-to-the-audience for my liking.

Good. I hope it scares the living shit out of everyone. People are entirely too comfortable living under the shadow of potential nuclear holocaust. We need reminders.

The “big moment” is clearly in reference to a scene where Oppenheimer gets a blowjob while straddling the atomic bomb.

I feel like I have a fragile handle on things that’s probably about the best that could be expected by an engaged non-physicist viewer. Short answer is basically yes. Following the film, he’s basically been working for and with him for years and they accomplish many missions in the future. The guy that we see in the

Less so now, but they were around a lot more in the 90's. Plus, I think the Goodyear blimp just kind of circled Atlanta all the time for a long time since we have a lot of airports for it to park overnight.

He should return to the role that earned him an Oscar and call it...
