They should have just gone full GTI.

Cadillac “Sports Car” Y1XL launches Jan-2021. Platform Y-CAR/Y1XX”, so C7 roots.

Cool car, I didn’t know of that one. I’m always down for some straight lines.

Other than the strange “double lights” both in front and back, I don’t mind the Kona overall. Kia / Hyundai is pretty conservative with their styling, I can respect that.

Something about the proportions of the old one just look wrong to me. So much hood but essentially nothing in back.

You can probably take a wild guess where I got that rear upper portion from...

Naaah, a little rust never hurts when you’re handy with bondo and love your Mazda.

Better for sure. Here’s my hack jobs (compared to original)

I asked Mazda to make me one like that, they said sure.

I hear ya.

Perhaps something like this. Add a rear side window for fun. I’d buy it.

It’s probably no worse for visibility than the outgoing model and it appears to give more cargo space. I think it’s a win from the previous gen, but it’s certainly far from ideal.

It’s odd for sure, but at least it looks like more interior space is gained. I say it’s a win vs. the previous model, which I think always looked too skimpy in the rear. Maybe they went too far.

Here here. Any rebuttal to that nonsense is cool with me.

From a practical standpoint, I will say that I like the new one better than the 3rd gen. Seems to be a lot more usable space in the hatch. But overall I like the 1st gen best.

One of these was a very practical and clean/simple design from Mazda. The other one is a clown shoe. Not sure if the latest edition is more clown shoe or just odd. Maybe both. Whatever. New cars suck.

Ha. The one time I rode somewhere in a Tracy-owned vehicle, his 92 XJ ran quite smoothly, including on the highway. We then exited and encountered someone with a broken down Ford Windstar, which we graciously pushed to a safer spot by hand since his XJ would have gone into the middle of the tailgate.

So... when are we doing this to your green XJ? Or at least hacking it up and grafting the Postal Jeep body on top?

Man, and I just thought you had a car-shaped table for holding car parts, cameras and crappy pizza.

While it would be odd to get used to if you switched from driving LHD to RHD, I think mirroring the turn signals does make sense. Conforms to my logic of “outboard hand typically has less to do, is always ready for a commonly used vehicle control.”
