I’d really rather not be fighting for the Soviets given the current political climate, I mean I’m not saying it’s offensive or anything but just weird levels of contemporary relevance.

That’s not even close to a new game engine but a lot of the game, especially netcode and server code, was rewritten. The best example I can think of for a live service game is Blade and Soul going from UE3 to UE4, which was and is an going and shit ridden process that may just bury the game.

No it means the game saw a severe lack of content after majority of their development time and effort switched to the sequel. The Overwatch guys are deemed “Team 4" at Blizzard.
