If you teach the intent and meaning of what’s written, you also have to teach the part about how it was written by unreliable narrators with their own agendas. While I think that’s the most interesting part of the Bible, it’s not exactly going to make most people open up their wallets.

Nearly all New Testament scholars and Near East historians agree that a man lived. They don’t all agree that that man was the actual Son of God. It’s an EXTREMELY big distinction that usually gets passed over by the people trying to trot out the “well, historians say he existed” talking point.
