I just went through the same experience. Cross shopped a '15 WRX and '15 GTI. 2 hours at the VW dealer to find out they don't have any two door manual GTI in a 60 mile radius, and won't ship me one. 30 minutes at Subaru and I bought a base blue WRX from another state, which they shipped for free.
