I’ve joked that streaming has turned me into something of a video prepper, because I’m convinced that at some point the studios will try to kill physical media altogether so that nobody can own movies anymore, they’ll have to pay a subscription fee to a service and even then the selections will suck. Streaming has

Oh yeah, I remember The Chosen! It was one of those movies that the local channels would show at like 11:30 on weekday nights. IIRC, Douglas’ character was a nuclear physicist who was building a revolutionary new nuclear plant with seven reactors — which was really the Beast of Revelation!

I think the Criterion Blade Runner sold about as many LD players as discs. Siskel and Ebert featured it on their show in the late ‘80s when they were talking about how bad panning and scanning was for watching movies on TV. At the time, it was one of a dozen or so movies you could buy on LD with letterboxing.

Thank you for this gift of Leonard Nimoy talking to a glowing rock that communicates with beeps. For TEN minutes.

But I imagine you went and bought replacement copies on DVD and eventually Blu-ray as well... possibly more than once... (I’ve long since lost track of the number of copies of Alien and Blade Runner I’ve owned.)

From what I understand, Piranha II isn’t even a legitimate sequel to the original, like the producers figured that they could just use the title and nobody would notice or care. (Cameron later used the name of one of the producers, Van Leeuwen, for the slimeball Weyland-Yutani exec who grills Ripley in the boardroom

IIRC, Cameron came down with a bad case of the flu while he was editing Piranha II, and the high fever caused the nightmare that inspired The Terminator, so it’s not totally without historical merit.

Hey, don’t laugh! Pioneer was still making those things as late as 2009. That’s a thirty-year run, not bad for a format lots of people considered a weak sister to videocassettes.

Now playing

Let Leonard Nimoy and his magic talking rock sell it for you! (From 1981, so I assume the rock is 100% pure Space Cocaine.)

My deepest apologies!

Don’t undersell it.  Laser VIDEO Disc!

OOOH  Video Cassette AND Laser Disc!

We also have a trailer for Serpent of Death, a.k.a. Snake, a new giant snake movie from China in which “a group of people traveling by boat along a river makes the startling discovery of a new breed of mutated snake that has become the king of the jungle.”

I actually like the idea of throwing things against the proverbial wall and seeing what happens.

I think it’s from their restructuring the DCEU vision with the new “Kevin Feige of DC.” Instead of just going “let’s try to make something by throwing every property we have at a wall!” They’re gonna take the time to figure out what the game plan should be. With the Arrowverse ending, it’ll be interesting to see where

It is definitely too niche for where DC is right now content wise, with a guy like Zaslav coming in, he’s a couple box office bombs away from shelving the whole DC universe sans Batman of course and expanding the 90 day Fiance experience to the big screen...

“Wonder Twin Powers Activate” sequence would involve more than rings coming together.

Everything’s fine until as long as they’re only step-siblings, right?
