The whole story about McQueen and the Towering Inferno is great Hollywood stuff. IIRC, the studio wanted McQueen for the architect role, but he didn’t like it. He wanted to play the fire chief (I think Ernest Borgnine was originally up for that), but that was a secondary character. So he insisted that they re-write

That was also how they presented the Ted Danson/Shelley Long credits on “Cheers.”

The story I heard was Yul Brenner was shorter than him so used to film scenes of ground that had been piled to make him taller, and between each shot McQueen would kick some of that dirt off...

McQueen didn’t have Redford’s charm.  He’s great in the right role because he brings such intensity but Redford’s lighter touch was a better fit for Sundance for sure.

O.J.!

From what I’ve read it was more Newman’s representation not wanting to cave than it was Newman himself. According to Redford, Newman went out of his way in both Butch Cassidy and the Sting to come off a little less cool, and in the case of the Sting, gained a little weight and strived to be less handsome because he

I’m tempted to blame McQueen.  IIRC, he was a real dick about stuff on the Magnificent Seven too.

Also, and I am only vaguely remembering this from the DVD special features, I believe McQueen was originally offered the part of Butch, with Newman playing Sundance and both were locked in until, as the article points out, a top billing dispute. The dispute went on long enough that the studio actually planned to

McQueen in The Driver makes a ton of sense but he’d already done Bullet, so I can see why he was reluctant. And the credit thing is hilarious. Some serious dick-swinging there...

“The Redford of Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid is one of the best-looking men who has ever existed on an American movie screen,”

I don’t think Tesla is keeping prices high, at all. Granted, they need to make profit in order to exist, but if you look at their lineup, there has been a dramatic reduction in price for all vehicles, while packing more performance for the money, just in the last year.

This is the correct take; the pessimistic “I told you so” tone doesn’t come off well.

I’m glad they did the experiment. Yes, it didn’t work, but that’s why it was an experiment. Some limitations were known - efficiency, sub-optimal sunlight, etc. Many of the variables were unknown - resin durability, tire noise, etc. The test was conducted, results derived. This is a win IMO.

Says the guy who wasn’t alive to experience the days when smog chocked American cities got so bad people literally thought there’d been a gas attack. Thank regulation for the clean air you breathe.

“most people on the left and right coasts have this ‘everything that annoys Trump is good’ attitude”

They did work together to simplify the regulations. California and the 12 states that follow California, along with 13 automakers, were in on the Obama agreement to increase fuel efficiency and emissions standards. That was working together to simplify the regulations.

Totally - why bother trying to stop any air pollution unless you stop every single instance of it at once?

What does this have to do with simplifying regulations? Everything was going according to plan before Trump decided to get involved. His people are the reason things are so complicated all of a sudden.

Mamoa is the kind of guy who would take you out, get you drunk as holy fuck, but ensure you had a ride home, along with a glass of water and ibuprofen next to your bed. Don’t know why he’s doing this, but I think he’s cool as fuck.

I agree the cult of Billy is exhausting and frustrating, but daaaaaaamn the Pumpkins had some awesome rock songs.
